I am proud to report that two years after starting this incredible journey we have met our first major milestone.  On August 12, 2014, The Missouri State Board of Education unanimously approved The Biome as the newest charter school in Saint Louis.  This approval expands access to high-quality public school choice for students in our community.

Our application was described by a DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) staff member as “high-quality” and a State Board Member stated that it was one of the most thorough that he has reviewed.  These comments are a reflection of the tremendous amount of time and intellectual capital applied to the completion of our application by a host of volunteers, YLC and The Biome Board Members, and YLC staff.  I would also like to thank our school sponsor, University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL), for their unfeigned commitment to the completion of our application.  This victory was achieved because of the contributions of those involved.

We are excited that The Biome will receive its first students in the fall of 2015.  The school will be a model for integrating student-centered learning, project-based opportunities, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education within a nurturing, academic ecosystem.

Please look for future announcements regarding our school leadership and staff!
