The Biome School is pleased to announce that it has been chosen to receive a Federal AmeriCorps grant award for the 2017-2018 school year, provided through the Missouri Community Service Commission (MCSC) The award will play a vital role in helping to grow and support The Biome School. Specifically, the grant will support the hiring of multiple AmeriCorps members who will be actively engaged in the classroom, supporting a variety of student needs.
Because students are most successful when they have personal, attentive support, our AmeriCorps members will be pivotal resources in providing additional daily academic and behavior support in every classroom, K-3. Learners not only will have access to tutoring and small group instruction in math and literacy they also will participate in PATHS programming, which helps support their development of positive social-emotional skills such as self-control, self-esteem, and problem-solving.
Throughout this past summer, we actively recruited and hired six AmeriCorps staff members to join the Biome School community. In addition to having rich and varied backgrounds, several of our AmeriCorps members have previously served in classrooms across the U.S. as reading tutors, music teachers, and even yoga instructors. There still are a few open AmeriCorps positions. Please share the opportunity with your networks and help us recruit these important new members to join our community. For more information and to apply please visit our AmeriCorps Page.
